Review of the 2023/2024 Season
The GBPS Annual Competitions were held in March with a wide variety of exhibits. Winners in each section, judged by Chris Harman and Peter Lister, were:
- R A G Lee Cup (for stamps or postal stationery): Kevin Maunder for the Repairs of the Penny Red Imperf. Plate.
- Theo Jones Salver (Open Class): Stephen Teuma for the Uniform Penny Post Exhibition at South Kensington of 1890.

- Macpherson Cup (Not a previous winner): James Heal for Postmark Development of Weston-Super-Mare.
- Secretaries Cup (Most promising entry): Stephen Teuma for Post Office Issue Postcards of Queen Victoria.
- There were additional awards to virtual displays from all around the world.
- The Great Britain Philatelic Society will conclude its 68th Season with its AGM on 22nd June, followed by an impressive display on the Life & Times of Winston Churchill by Simon Moocroft.
The season has comprised 20 display sessions from September to Zoom, eight of which could also be viewed on Zoom for those who did not wish to travel to London. Only one of these was Zoom only. The programme included two regional meetings in the North East and South West, a joint meeting with the Cinderella Stamp Club, two gatherings hosted by Stanley Gibbons and the Annual Competitions. As always, displays were of a high standard and the Royal Philatelic Society London serves as an excellent venue for most meetings.
Peter Lister has completes his two years as President and Andy Donaldson FRPSL takes over that role, with Maurice Buxton FRPSL as Vice-President. Another highlight in the year was the election of John Davies FRPSL as an RDP, a former President of the Society. The year also saw the publication by the GBPS of a major work on “The Penny Lilac”, written by Robert Galland FRPSL, Karl Louis FRPSL and Peter Young FRPSL. Overall, the 68th season has been a great success with new members joining all the time and improved attendance at meetings as confidence grows post Covid.
